Kandinsky Circles from Abstraction Attraction at Hidden Treasures Christian School

The students at Hidden Treasures School explored the colorful world of Vassily Kandinsky during the “Abstraction Attraction” smART Explorers program. Kandinsky painted colors to show emotions. By using oil pastels and watercolor resist technique, the students created vibrant artwork to express their individual impressions of colors.

After school sessions

January 14, 2010

Wow!  We began a new after school enrichment at Calvary Episcopal school year, and the feedback has been great.  The students are meeting once per week for the entire year and we are doing the monthly themed enrichment programs.  We recently completed the Clayations month, and the art these students created was so impressive.  We gave the students model magic and wire, and asked them to make the “Zany Sculpture”.  One 3rd grade student made an entire Solar System!

Build Your “Art smARTS” with smART Explorers!

January 7, 2010

If you like to color! …if you like to draw! …if you like to fingerpaint! …if you like to make things from dough! …if you like to build things from blocks! …Do you know what that makes you? An ARTIST! All artists like experimenting with art materials to create things. Whenever you try to create something new with a Crayon, Marker, Sidewalk Chalk, Dough, Paint, or Colored Pencils, you are practicing your “Art smARTS”!

There are three things that help you build your art smARTS!

  • Your senses! Look with your eyes at everything around you wherever you go. Listen with your ears to sounds inside and outdoors. Touch things with your fingers to feel soft, bumpy, smooth and rough surfaces. Smell with your nose — flowers, food cooking, and fruit in a bowl, even your clothes when they are freshly washed. And taste with your tongue – new foods and flavors are fun to explore. Observing the world around you will give you lots of ideas!
  • Your imagination! Who likes to pretend? What do you like to pretend? When you make believe and wonder about things, you are using your imagination. When you draw a new design, make new music rhythms with instruments, try a new snack recipe, figure out how to build something… you are using your imagination and building your “art smARTS”!
  • Your curiosity! What if the sun glowed pink? What if the sky was green and the grass was blue? What if there was a monkey with a snake for a tail? “What if…” questions help you think of things that maybe never really happened, but could! When you are doing art, asking, “What if…” might help you find a brand new way to draw, paint, color, sculpt, or build. Being curious and feeling brave enough to try something new help you build your “art smARTS”!
